When politicians spend more on a campaign than the annual salary they will receive if elected, there is a problem!
MacKay ran a clean GRASSROOTS campaign. The campaign was totally grassroot, and spent less than $300 total, most of it to the NC State Board of Elections on filing fees. The campaign was still effective and managed to get 4600 votes, in a three-way race as a third party candidate. This PROVES we can remove big money influence from politics, but we, the people, must want to. It also proves that third party candidates are viable and there is no reason to leave them out of debates. Grassroots worked hard and provided MacKay with one of the most popular campaign sites for any NC Senate candidate. As the election drew near, there were times when the MacKay for Senate campaign site had a higher search engine ranking than US Senator Elizabeth Dole and opponent Kay Hagan, yet MacKay was only running for state senate! After the campaign, the campaign bank account was closed, and all leftover money (about $200) was donated to the poor. MacKay is very proud of the accomplishments by the Grassroot supporters. Again, congratulations to Senator Neal Hunt. I will call on you as a constituent. There are lots of issues pertaining to individual liberty that need to be worked.
