Jan MacKay, along with at least 70,000 voters in NC, favors easing ballot restrictions, in order to present voters in North Carolina with more choices rather than be stuck with the same old career politicians being the only names on the ballots.
NORTH CAROLINIANS DESERVE MORE CHOICES!
There is currently a terrible situation in which career politicians, too often, are the only ones running for elected office. Frequently, they have nobody to run against them and oppose their stranglehold over the state.
In 2007 and 2008, the Libertarian Party had to collect more than 70,000 signatures of registered voters onto petitions to allow Libertarians onto the ballots this November. The people have spoken! This came at great cost in terms of time and money, and disrupted the political process by not allowing candidates to appear in the primaries - this cost was not incurred by the two major political parties.
When career politicians make rules which help them to retain their positions, there is something fundamentally wrong with the NC election process.
The pertinent chapter and article is General Statutes, Chapter 163, Article 9
As a result, there are mainstream media reports from the first week of May until July 1st which incorrectly tell people there are only two candidates for NC Senate District 15, when, in fact, Jan MacKay has also been selected and qualified as a Senate candidate.
It is now a three way race for State Senator in NC Senate District 15, Wake County!
It is proven, the citizens of North Carolina believe more choice is better.
So, if after the general elections, we find that Jan MacKay is elected, please expect Jan, within the first three months of 2009, to introduce a Senate bill that modifies GS 163-96 and GS 163-97 to ease ballot restrictions.
As usual, the prevailing major parties are expected to want to retain their advantage, and the mainstream media is likely to overlook their power play. So in the spring, check media sources that are more concerned with rights freedom, liberty, and responsibility for updates. If the bill is held up by being sent to a committee where it will die, Jan is likely to scream bloody murder, that the NCGA is NOT doing what the citizens want, AS PROVEN, and the news media sources likely to cover it are not likely to be mainstream.
