Jan MacKay, civil libertarian, is already known throughout North Carolina and America as an advocate for rights and liberties of individuals.
She is a dedicated, hardworking, and intelligent “freedom fighter” who, in 2007 stepped into a tough battle to get the government to stop forcing “torture devices” called helmets onto other peoples heads.
Government needs to listen to the people. When they don’t, we need Senators and House members to stand up and very vocally say “Hold on!”
It seems to Jan that the government cannot be running everyones lives and making all our decisions. If we are to be free, we have to start standing up to the government forces before they start doing such things as conducting surveillance on the citizens (whoops too late - will have to make a big stink about that) and making plans to insert RFID chips into everyones arms. The citizens must let the government know that we will not accept all new regulations that are constantly forced onto us. We demand they listen to us. We insist upon our Constitutional rights and liberties guaranteed to us as citizens of the land of the free. America and North Carolina must get back to what makes our country great. Rights, liberty and freedom!
In 2008, Jan MacKay is running for the North Carolina Senate in District 15, Wake County, as a Libertarian. Jan could have run for House in District 40, but Rep Marilyn Avila is active, researches the issues with diligence, and does an outstanding job. The weaker spot in Wake County representation is in NC Senate District 15. We are currently represented by someone who does well, often votes correctly on issues, has an excellent attendance record, is fairly responsive to constituents. The only major problem is that he doesn’t often stand up and deliver the kind of highly active representation we need in Senate District 15. When the rights of the people hang in the balance, there can be no room for mediocrity and status quo. We need someone with heart.
Jan won’t be littering the landscape with signs, and won’t be interrupting your favorite television show. She is not a rich person, and thinks it is ridiculous, and quite revealing, when politicians spend more in order to get elected than the annual salary pays them. At best, it seems corrupt. At worst, it seems downright evil. She’ll pay her filing fee of $207, and will use the remainder of her total budget of $500 in order to meet you in person. She might not always be dressed like a politician. Her gas-sipping motorcycle (55 mpg) is her primary mode of getting around the city and from place to place, and fancy dress just doesn’t work. She will make personal appearances all over Wake County, but in these times when fuel conservation is important, she will not be in a gas-guzzler. Instead of spending lots of money on the campaign, she will be as thrifty on the campaign trail as she will be in office. In order to be victorious in November, she asks that you will tell your friends, and they will tell more friends, to please vote for her.
In NC in 2008, we are at a crossroads. Fortunately, we are lucky to have some good people in Raleigh. In all fairness, this does include our incumbent senator. However, for every one legislator who serves the public rightly, there are two who are operating under some delusion that they are the masters over their subjects. Those who run for government, usually intend to govern, and some will use the powers of their office against the people. They often vote for issues which serve themselves, whether it be for personal economic gain or retention of their seat. Legislators should only be introducing new laws which are constitutional. Government spending in tough economic times needs to be limited to necessary improvements in the infrastructure. Government does not exist to serve the wealthy and privileged at the expense of the working class, nor does it exist to provide a welfare society!
We need people, like Jan, who understand the limited role that government should have, and that the government should not be controlling our day to day affairs. The government exists for the good of all the people. When elected, she will constantly remind her colleagues in the legislature, of that. It is always easier to vote no rather than allow laws that are overbearing and deprive citizens. We need people in the legislature who are willing to stand up and be very vocal if we are to keep government powers in check.
We need someone from a true fighter fighter background, willing to stand up for our rights.
For Wake County citizens, the choice is easy. Say no to the status quo!
